Following stop 3 in Lima where I took the chance to vote at the embassy so no one can blame me for whoever gets into government, we saved another nights' accommodation with the overnight bus to Arequipa.

Arequipa is the second largest city in Peru. It is also one of the nicest. All the old buildings are made Sillar, a porous volcanic rock – from the volcanoes that tower over the city. It’s quite relaxed for a large city and was well suited to our goal of kicking back for a few days.

The big event however was that Pickles arrived! After an epic 60 hour journey, a few beers were consumed on the roof top terrace overlooking a sleeping city. We spent the next couple of days relaxing and enjoying the warm weather. We did plan to go out – at least everyone else did – I had a bit too much Ron (rum) and happy hour Pisco Sour at an awesome Mexican restaurant.
