The drive down was interesting to say the least! Packed in a minivan with 15 people and no suspension and unnervingly slick tires, we headed down the "new" death road to Coroico. So ok, a drive down death road, but add to that a thick fog that meant visibility was literally only 5 metres, a slick, muddy road and a driver who seemed to be in a hurry and had no qualms about over-taking trucks over double lines on a blind corner and it became a whole lot more...well fun – I actually quite enjoyed the thrill!
Coroico is a beautiful mountain side village surrounded by lush rainforest and small banana and fruit plantations. Unfortunately, the cloud had set in, but it didn't really affect the magnificent views from our resort like accommodation. Run by a French couple, the onsite restaurant was amazing – with scrumptious (haha yes I just used that word!) food coming out of what was basically a hostel kitchen! We took our time here just to relax, have a short wander around town and just enjoy being out from a big city.
Definitely a highlight.
