Where I stayed
What I did
Landing in Las Vegas can be a little nerve wracking, if like me you are a nervous flier. Its the wind, coming off the hot desert, that buffers your plane sideways (and brings an immediate sweat to my forehead). We landed safely (albeit a little roughly) in Vegas quite late in the evening.
We caught a cab, and got dropped off at Excalibur Hotel, the giant castle on the strip, where we would be spending the next 12 hours. We checked in, dumped our bags, cleaned up a little and hit the strip.
If you have been to Vegas before you will understand how the place has an energy to it. Everyone is going somewhere, off to see a show, to play the tables, for dinner, for dessert, for drinks, everyone scurries around to the next entertainment - and I LOVE IT! I have been three times, and I want to go back for more, I want to stay in a new hotel, they all have their gimmicks, and they are all geared to making money. Vegas is about excess, it IS the adult Disneyland, no holds barred, no apologies for who she is as a city.
So we decided to head to the Hard Rock Cafe (the one of the strip) for dinner, I had a great meal, and then we wandered up the strip to check out the Bellagio fountains, and to find a cocktail.
I have no idea where the time goes, but when we stopped and looked at the clock it was definitely past bedtime (since I was going to be up early and driving to the grand canyon the next day). So we headed back to the castle, drew the block out curtains and got some Zzz.
