Sorry we have skipped a lot of blog entries. We haven't really had time or the internet to update in Africa. We've travelled up from Johannesburg through Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi and Tanzania and have now arrived in Zanzibar. We are enjoying the sun here. After this we go to the Serengeti and Nairobi. Then it is home time for us, in less than 2 weeks. Can you believe it. We might do some more updating before our trip ends so keep a look out!
That was our entry at the time, we've since gone back and filled in the gaps! A couple more people joined the tour in Dar es Salaam (Marianne and Hong) and Ann left. We spent the first night in Stonetown, where we took a tour of a spice farm, some ruins and went for lunch at a family restaurant where the girls all got henna tattoos. Then we headed North. Northern Zanzibar was gorgeous, we spent our days and nights on the beaches, sunning ourselves and eating freshly caught BBQ fish (great model for low waste: the BBQ cook had a selection of big fish caught that day and worked through them one by one, you could have a fillet only of the one he was on at the time). The girls all went snorkelling and I went for a couple of dives that included an awesome boat trip to the marine reserve off the East of Zanzibar.
