Today in preschool I was with the older ones who continued to work through their workbooks. This was interupted for about 30mins when I was asked to cut beans for lunch! The first afterschool class leanrt about musical instrumnets, while the second older class did past/present/future tense.

This country is actually cricket obsessed. The talk of the afterschoolers today was all about  the final of the world cup tonight with India playing Pakistan. I think I was probably the only person in Sri Lankan, who has a TV, that wasn't watching the match or knows who won! I came here with no cricket knowledge, now I know that there are 1day matches or ones with 20 or 50 overs (although I don't know what an over is!). Also there was some event in the last cricket match about a 6 for 6 or something! It's strange how the kids can communicate in English very well when it comes to cricket. I really should start to take an interest as we're going to watch England v Sri Lanka in October.

We're traveling up to Colombo tomorrow night in preparation of a day trip to Kandy on Wednesday. It's Poya (Buddhist festival) so the school's shut and we'll be back bright and early on Thursday morning for school, with a new housemate, Andy the builder! We're also visiting an elephant orphanage on Wednesday - rumor has it you can ride an elephant. If this is the case then my time in Sri Lanka will be complete as I said I wasn't leaving until I got to do it!
