Today Mark and I were tasked with being in charge of the Preschool's entertainment from start to finish. When this has happened before, they usually told me 5mins before the class was due to start but this time we were told yesterday. We did everything except the register (as we can't read sinhala). Also as I usually read them a story in English everyday, today Milani read them a sinhala one. I thought we did I rather good rendition of grace before breakfast and lunch. Milani wrote it phonetically for us so we could lead the children. No doubt the pronunciation with the Belfast twang was second to none!

I took the older ones for their class and that was teaching them the letter "G". After the initial fact that most of them starting writing "6", they eventually all got the hang of it. Tuesday is the day I only have one class. I did colours with them and then they had to fill in the blanks with a colour e.g. "a pig is pink".

We went a walk tonight down top the town and back. The best thing about going at night is its cooler plus it has more of an atmosphere. I think it will start to be a regular venture.

Tomorrow we're going to Tangalle prison in the afternoon as Smile sponsor some children whose parents are in prison. I've been before and it's an eye opener to say the least, in terms of the living conditions of the inmates.

To finish, I leave you with a random fact - the children here have probably never seen traffic lights as they are only in Colombo. I found this out last week when they were colouring them in and didn't know what colours they were meant to be. That still amazes me although it does explain a lot when it comes to the quality of driving!
