Yesterday at Preschool, the older ones were learning to write in sinhala, while the younger ones were drawing with colouring pencils. As I an equally useless at both these things (although I do sharpen a good point on a pencil) I decided to try and learn to write my name ion sinhala. I'm glad to say I succeeded and can now write it without having to copy it. In sinhala I lose a letter as it only has 7. My first afterschool class did a wordsearch. The second class was the younger ones again so they learnt 3 letters.

Today we ventured up to the rubbish dump to see the elephants as they come there to eat. It's hard to believe that I'm able to say I went up before to see them 3months ago! We decided to walk down to the town first to the market as I needed my daily papaya. It seems in the last week, the price of bananas has gone up by 5 times! Last Saturday, I paid 20ruppees for twice as many bananas that I got today for 100rupees! I think it was more like the seller saw a way to make a quick penny after a slow day's trade! He dropped the price by 10 rupees but I think we can all safely say I was well and truly ripped off!

By saying "aliya' (singhala for elephant) a few times and doing my best impression of an elephant, the 3wheel driver eventually figured out where to take us. This time there were 4 elephants feasting on the rubbish and we stayed on the right side of the electric fence! While walking through the rubbish, I saw a razor which I'm convinced was mine! Even if it wasn't, I like to think that I was able to track down a bit of my rubbish in the middle of a dump!
