Yesterday we went to the rainforest in Sinharaja near Ratnapura. Apparently most people die of poisonous snake bites here compared to anyway in the world!! Also it rains approx 310/312 days a year. Well we didn't see any snakes and it didn't rain. It all started off as a bit of a joke -  our driver for the day turned up in his 3wheeler and not a van!! Wires must have gotten crossed somewhere - if we went in a 3wheeler, we would probably have arrived tomorrow! Anyway he came back 30mins later with a van so that was good!

It is a completely different side to the parts of Sri Lanka that I have seen so far, which have all been by the coast. As we went inland and drove further and further above sea level, it became more green and there were amazing views of all the mountains. You would never know that there was this side to Sri Lanka. As we drove up through the mountains, we could see the tea fields and people out picking the tea. For the best quality tea, they have to pick only the top 3 leaves on the plants-what a monotonous job!

The drive took longer than expected on the way as the roads up to the rainforest are full of potholes. Took us 5hours to get there, but on the way home we went another route and we were back in 4hours. Once we got there, we took a 10min ride in the jeep up to the entrance, you could walk it, but it was very steep so we opted for the lazy option. We had a guide with us so they point out the wildlife, flowers etc to you. They are amazing at spotting things you would just walk past. There were lots of butterflies and spiders. Everything I went to take picture of anything, they all run away! We did a 5km walk which took us to the "big tree". The tree is 600 years old and very big! You can see the dimensions from the photo.

Today we took it easy and recovered after yesterday's journey. Lunch was at the Peacock Beach Hotel and I started a 500piece jigsaw-it's become quite addictive!
