It's raining, it's pouring....but it's still warm!

My Thursday afterschool class is the mad bunch! Well it has a handful of boisterous boys in it! This is when you notice the communication difference but a few shuffling of seats, stern looks and a change in tone seems to calm things down! They are good boys really; they just need to be kept on the straight and narrow. Once they put their mind and energy into something constructive, they are as good as the rest.
So it has rained on and off all day today, but our spirits weren't dampened! I was interested to see how the day would work, especially for preschool, as they spend most of their time outside. It all worked out well - we were able to improvise and all in all, it seemed to go well, even without them being able to run about and get rid of their energy! The teachers told a story using puppets which they seemed to love. It was very enjoyable even though I didn't understand a word of it. They were trying to get the point across that everyone in school are friends and shouldn't fight. There is a lot of hitting of each other, mainly because the children see this at home and so think it is acceptable. Hopefully the story had some effect on them - they were intrigued by it anyway! They then sat in a circle, passing a hat round. When the music stopped, whoever had the hat on had to sing a song, tell a nursery rhyme etc. Again didn't understand a word of what they were saying but I'm sure there must have been a few familiar ones!
