Preschool today seemed manic for some reason. I think I counted around 30 today, usually there are around 25. It was particularly hot today as well so maybe that added to it, but we still had fun. Today's story was "10 little crocodiles". The reading time is also to benefit the teachers, so that in the future, they will be able to read it to them. Plus it's good having them as they can tell the kids the jist of the story.

The afterschool club reminded me of a children's birthday party! On Wednesday's they don't have lessons, but discover their creative side! Half the class did some fabric painting, which looked fantastic. Needless to say, due to my artistic talents, I went with the other group, who were to sing and dance.  I wasn't supposed to be taking it, but ended up doing so. So the first thing we played was "musical statues" - that's culture for you!  Sri Lankans have some good dance moves! They enjoyed it and by the end of it, it was hard to get anyone out. I then taught them the good old favourite "if you're happy and you know it".  At home if you did this with a bunch of 9,10,11 year olds, they'd probably eat you alive, but they love it out here and we managed to sing along to the 5verses with the cd.

The first stages of building the 2 new classrooms finally started today - the back garden now has 8 less trees.  They are all coconut trees, so even though a few of them weren't where the building is to take place, they needed to be removed so that coconuts don't fall on the children as they play.

I've now added to my singlase vocab - "mass" is meat, "bat" is rice and "oler" is potato (of course they are all spelt phonetically!). Some would say that is all you need to know - as long as you can order food, everything else should follow!!
