Christmas in Helsinki
Trip Start Oct 08, 2006
37Trip End Ongoing
I arrived in Helsinki, or actually to Tikkurila which is closer to the airport around ten o'clock in the evening and went to the airport. Basty's flight was late, typical, when you haven't seen each other in some weeks and are waiting to see your girl/boyfriend. We were both totally tired but happy to be together again.
Even though we were totally tired, it happened so that Karri, a guy who was also in St.Petersburg last spring, was visiting Helsinki. He had just returned from a four-month journey through South-East Asia. We enjoyed some beers and each other's company until 4 o'clock, when the bars close in Finland.
About accomodation: we are staying at a really nice hostel in Erottaja (Hostel Erottajanpuisto).
It is situated in the heart of the city, has nice staff and cool premises - I can only recommend. Well, the rooms are a bit Russia-like but okay. I like Russia :) There are also cheaper hostels in Helsinki, such as Eurohostel or Stadionhostel but this one is so close to everything that I didn't have to take a tram or a metro during the whole time here. We pay for a double room per night 55 euros with some discount. Not exactly "hostel prices" suitable for backpackers but Helsinki is an expensive city. I don't even want to know what a room in a hotel would cost! Well, prices will get cheaper when we head towards Tallinn and Petersburg.
I have posted Helsinki-pictures also before - check out my Finland and Russia travelogues.
