We were on a three-hour, 8 a.m. mini bus from Hanoi to the famous Ha Long Bay on September 1st.  All over Thailand, people raved about the three-day, two-night tour with Hanoi Backpackers, so we went with them.

It was a total party, though there was time to kayak, swim and tour through one of the many caves before having dinner and partying on the boat. Spring break-like drinkingr and other shenanigans aside, we met some great people and I really enjoyed coursing through the maze of islands (sunken mountains, really) and soaking up the scenery.

Day Two took us to a small island near the end of the bay, where we spent our second day and night. A little volleyball, wake boarding, chatting with fellow travelers and playing poker before dinner, we had another night to party, this time beachside. Around midnight, we ventured into the water to see luminescent plankton that one of the UK girls more accurately described as fairy dust.

An early morning boat took us back to shore and then we were off on a bus back to Hanoi. Trish is heading home on the 5th and I haven't decided between Cambodia and Laos, but I've got a day and a half to figure it out.
