With great sadness and a bit of hangover, David and I left Rio de Janeiro they day after the Karnival was finished. As usual, there was a lot of discussion about the route to follow with plenty of different alternatives and means of transportation. In the end, we decided to stop one night in Sao Paulo in our way to the argentinian border in Iguazu. That mean just 6 hours bus from Rio, nothing considering the huge distance this country has. In fact, we were not specially interested in Sao Paulo but it was in our way, it is the biggest city in South America and supossedly it has a great nightlife. We also knew people there…

People that we never managed to meet cause they happened to be somewhere else, so we had to look for stuff to do there by ourselves in which happened to be a very shitty night. We arrived there, got a cheap hostel and got ready to see what was going on in the night just to find out that nothing was going on. Only the streap-tease places were opens and we only saw hookers around. Not a single decent bar, nothing at all. Was that the brilliant night of Sao Paulo? This guy convinced us to take a taxi to a remote a place, apparently where the karnival had taken place. Asshole! There was nothing going on there, you could see there had been some action the night before because of the mess but that night there was only some security guys around, staring as us like wondering what the fuck we were doing there. We had to come back to the cheap hostel..

The next day wasnt too much better, Sao Paulo is ugly and it was raining all the time, the city lacks Rio’s magic and the atmosphere is much worse. We put all our effort on doing the itineraries the Lonely recomends but all that water and the ugliness of the city made us end up in a cibercafe just wating for the bus to Iguazu. While I was surfing I found the guy I new in Sao Paulo online. He said he was not in town cause he went somewhere else for the Karnival. I told him about our attempt to party the previous night and he laughed his ass off. “Dude, yesterday was ashes Wednesday!, nobody goes out that day”. Obvious, if you think about it, people stay home after 4 days of non-stop party. The stop in Sao Paulo was crap, like this post. Lets move on.
