Today, Seotember 19th we toured the Town of Whitby and the Whitby Abbey which was badly damaged during WWII. This Abbey dates as a spiritual community back to around the year 600 and provided inspritation for the writing of Dracula.. The Church which is adjacent to it is still in use and has many gave stones dating back to the 1700's. If you are truly dedicated you will walk up the 199 stone steps from the Town - we cheated and drove around and parked on the top of the hill. The Town of Whitby is very much a Tourist / Vacation location and today it was very busy along many of the narrow streets.
The Town of Whitby also is the inspirational source used by the author of Harry Potter and the first book was based on this Town's legendry Ghost Walks which are still carried out throughout the summer. Today was Pirate Day in Town and one of the pictures shows the Priate Ship leaving the harbour with a group of tourists.
