America = bit of a culture shock! We drove up the 101 going WOW, look at the ENORMOUS houses! and then went into the supermarket and wasn't sure whether to start stock piling the trolley with goodies or weep for the plight of the poor Guatemalans. It is extremely nice to speak English to everyone (I feel so competent!) and it is extremely difficult to refrain from clothes shopping. Not altogether successful on that front.

Seeing the Cannons and staying in the gorgeous beach house which they have rented, with beautiful sea views (including schools of dolphins going past in the mornings) has been absolutely fantastic after moosing round with a backpack for 6 months, and we have happily washed our clothes, eaten a great deal of much-missed dishes, and caught up over many gin and tonics. Courtesy of Charlie and Tiffany we had a full traditional-style Thanksgiving, including doing the local 'turkey trot' in the morning (5K fun run), and tried to fully embrace the whole pumpkin, gingerbread, sweet potato, cranberry combinations, it's all very Autumnal! It is our turn tonight to do a South American evening. Spent a LONG time trying to think of a single decent main course, although obviously the pisco sours will be full flowing and hopefully make up for the food...

Anyway, next week we move to Charlie and Tiffany's sofabed and the serious business of job application begins, if we can tear Andy away from Harry Potter, which with epic timing as severe unemployed bankrupcy approaches, he has 'rediscovered'.
