We have arrived in Hawaii.  The weather is very warm and sunny.

Just  a few hints on how to do Hawaii on a budget from the "we're at the end of the trip and the money O'Sullivan's".

We are staying at the Aqua Marina Hotel which is adequate and a good budget accomodation. We have a very comfortable King size bed that almost fills the entire room. The bathroom is small but clean and has lots of hot water. .....almost too hot.  There is a small fridge and kitchenette and we have an amazing view of the ocean. We are on the 27th floor and located only 1 block from Waikiki  beach. We are paying $77.00 a night and across the street at the Ilikai and the Hilton the rooms start at $280.00 a night and go much higher. Continental breakfast is included and there is lots of fresh fruit to select.

We bought a 4 day bus pass for $20.00 and can travel all around the island with the bus.

We are a block from a large shopping centre with Macy's and Sears and lots of high end shops to visit (Prada, Gucci,  Louis Vuiton etc). It also has a huge food court that is like eating at the United Nations so we have had our dinner there a couple of nights with great Thai food and Chinese.  Here 2 can eat dinner for $15.00.

Tuesday we took the bus to Pearl Harbour and visited the Arizona Memorial. Very moving visit as over 1100 men were killed on the battleship and are entombed in it below the water.

Wednesday we took the bus around the island and stopped off at the Dole pineapple planation located on the highlands in the middle of the island. We then stopped at one of the Northern beaches where we snorkelled in very calm clear water and saw lots of nice fish.

Thursday we took the bus to Manoa falls and then did a 1 hour hike up through the rainforst to the falls and the clear pool under them. Even though it rained in the forest it was quite warm on the hike and we enjoyed a dip in the pool under the falls. Thursday evening we went to a Hawaiian Luau at Germaine's Luau which was a very good polynesian show and buffet dinner cooked in the traditional earth fire. Quite a bit like a Hangi in New Zealand.  The group on our bus was lots of fun and we enjoyed the evening.

Friday we took the bus to the Hanauma Bay park and reserve to snorkel. However the surf was strong and there were dangerous rips so we were limited in how far we went. It still was a very nice bay to visit.  We then stopped at Daimond Head State Monument park and hiked up to the summit.  Not an easy hike in the heat but great views at the top.
