We arrived in Steamboat today. It has not snowed in several days but it is very cold and they have a record amount of snow as a base. The mountain is absolutely enormous! The cold weather and altitude keep the snow light and perfectly fluffy even after a couple of days of Blue Bird skiing. The highlight of the trip was the back country PowderCat skiing we did on Wednesday. I was amazed at how much untracked powder the Catskiing Company had left after four days of no snow. The powder was very nice, two to three feet deep fluffy and light not corny at all.  We had so much fun. I used my new Gotamas which I absolutely LOVE! The Cat company provided powder skis which were fine (Smith Pocket Rockets two years old) but it was obvious how much powder skis have improved in two years because our Gotamas where much better skis. Steamboat Powder Cats is the company we used and they did a great job. We skied powder all day and they provided a hot lunch at a log cabin in the middle of nowhere it was pretty cool and a photographer who shot great pictures of us tree skiing the Aspens. I very much recommend this, expensive but worth every penny. One feels very spoiled after the CatSkiing, the next day on the mountain Brian, Matthew and I felt very annoyed with all the other skiers we had to share the terrain with! I recommend taking the advanced Cat the intermediate terrain can get kind of flat but still fun. Advanced Cat books up supper fast.
