We went to the Fondis restaurant , as we knew some of the
guys would be there to hear the Russian girls doing their serenade gig.

After the Cantatrix and the Chinese Broadcasting Children’s
Choir show we headed over to City Hall for another show/dance.  This show featured a full dance band and
select small ensemble performances, sort of a dance floor show.  Our 2 quartets performed along with a Swedish
quintet (I think).  The dance was very
nice and it has been a long time since I was at a ballroom dance.  There were some very elegant dance couples
and the music was classic ballroom dancing tunes.  I took a video of a young couple who jumped
up on the stage with the band to avoid the crowd.  Real Time announced to the crowd that this
was their very last performance as Real Time, as 2 members of the quartet had
changed and they are now known as Via Voice.
It is not my favorite name but if they continue to sing as they are I
won’t care what their name is.

 When the show/dance
was over the Con-Men quartet started looking for someone to sing our songs to.  Drew cornered a nice looking blonde from the
Dutch group but she was hurrying to another engagement and couldn’t stop.  We decided to go down in the stairway where
we could catch some unsuspecting souls leaving the facility.  As soon as we started singing, some of the
Chinese Broadcasting group came along and stopped to listen with much
interest.  We finished our first song and
we got a thunderous reaction.  It was
cool.  A traffic jam had now been created
as we started our next (only other) song.
As we sang the tag, the cameras and videos were going and when we
finished, the applause again roared.  One
of the other groups who had been singing for folks upstairs came down the
stairs, still singing.  The crowd that
they had been entertaining came down the stairs and we thought, “Another
opportunity??”  Part of the next group
was more of the China Broadcasting group including their director.  We sang the songs again with a similar
reaction.  That opened the door for the
Chinese group to do a couple of numbers in the stairwell too.  One song had them doing moves and it was
super.  They too, loved to entertain and
make people smile and enjoy the music.  I
video recorded some of their stuff.  We
moved outside of the building and visited with the girls.  The 2 boys had been too tired to go to the
show and went to bed.  We thought it was
a little late for the girls to be out but they were very content to visit.  They all seemed to be conversant in English
so we were able to ask them about their group, their ages, their home and talk
about their music.  They gave each of us
a little memento.  It was one of those
special experiences that I have had in barbershop that make whatever efforts we
make to sing well more than worth it.
Our peers were very complimentary – “you rang the snot out of those
songs” and “You were rock stars” and “your videos will be all over China tomorrow”.  It was very rewarding.
