Where I stayed
Our bike ride to Coroico started at 7:45am sharp. Around 9am we got to an altitude of 4000m by the van then got into our bikes and got few safety notes from our guide Graham. There were about 10 of us that day.
It was freezing cold up there and as we started to ride down the first 22Km we even got more cold. It was foggy, rainy, you name it. After 22Km we got to the junction of the new and the old road where we started to go down the old one. That is where your 42Km of gravel starts. We had to be stopping every so often due to the heavy traffic coming on each way.
The view is spectacular if it does not rain. Until you get to the bottom where you hop into the van to go uphill to the town of Coroico you won´t see any sun. That is guaranteed. So lots of layers of clothes and waterproof ones is a must.
So we finally finish it at about . Then we were taken to the Esmerald Hotel (just a whaooo about the magnificent view from the hotel) where we got shower and had a late buffet dinner.
Then around 5:30pm we head back to La Paz. The ride back is more dangerous since it is pitch dark and foggy again.
We got back around 9pm to the city.
