Route: From Sonora, CA to Santa Rosa, CA
Kilometres: 361

Here's a first – celebrating the 4th of July, American Independence day, in America! Was quite excited today because we were finally meeting up with Tim & Becky (and all the Croziers!). Grabbed a bit of brekkie at the hotel, and made a quick pit stop at the Napa Valley Outlets (one of us didn’t have a shirt and tie for the wedding... you can guess who). After a successful quick trip, we drove through wine country and made our way to our campsite at Springlake – quite a nice site, and definitely people around ready to celebrate the 4th of July!

After setting up our tent, we made our way to the Crozier household in Santa Rosa. For those of you that may not know, Becky is a close friend of mine that I met in NZ – she’s originally from Santa Rosa and she moved to NZ just a few months earlier than me, and we met in our early days while she was relieving at Northcross (the school I stayed with, she moved on to another school). We’ve been close ever since (call it a North American compadre-ship), and her and Tim actually started dating shortly after we met, so I couldn’t imagine not being there for the wedding! I had also met (and heard so many stories about) many people within their respective families, so it was fantastic to finally see them again, or meet them for the first time.

In true 4th of July form, there was a yummy bbq at the Crozier house, and then we drove to neighbouring Sonoma County to Uncle Richie’s house – for homemade ice cream and the county fireworks of course! It was neat to be in the middle of the paddock and just lay back and enjoy the fireworks – don’t think it gets more 4th of July than that!
