Brasov - the name brings to mind vampires, castles, and everything Dracula.  We took a rocking bus from Brasov to Bran Castle (the rap and dance mix music was great but a little funny as well) to see the famous Bran Castle.  The whole Dracula aspect of the castle was cool, and all the secret passage ways and stairs give it a maze like feel.  The castle is built on a hill in the middle of the forest, in a truly breathtaking location.  You can definitely let your imagination go wild and see Dracula lurking in the woods to suck your blood!

We stayed at a great place run by two young snowboarding instructors.  The place had a washing machine, and for the first time in almost a year I did my laundry in a washing machine.  So exciting.  And after smoky Greece, a freshly laundered load of travel clothes was greatly appreciated.  We had a long, drawn out dinner with wine and pasta.  A date night.  Our routine in Europe has changed - we wake up late, have leisurely meals, get into the room after 10pm, watch some news and read before falling asleep at midnight.

I had a talk with one of the hotel owners friends.  She is an artist, and showed me some of her paintings and sculptures.  I asked her about Romania and it's inclusion in the European Union.  She explained it as "everyone thinking with one brain now".  She also recommended that we see Peles Castle.

Peles Castle is (relatively) new, and gorgeously maintained.  It was built for King Carol I summer residence.  I loved the Turkish rugs, crystal mirrors.  Calvin loved the extensive arms collection from the 16th to 19th century(including full armor for horse and rider), and the Turkish smoking room.  The central vacuum system and elevator (operational in 1901) were impressive.
