After only one day in Stone Town it was off to do a little relaxing on the beach. We picked Kendwa beach which turned out to be an excellent choice. With long stretches of white sand and blue bathtub temperature water it was the relaxing time we where looking for. After spending time on the beach and reading our books the first day, we went snorkeling. We only spent two hours and it was like swimming in an aquarium. Latha enjoyed it as well but she decided not to wear her glasses or contacts which turned out to be a rookie mistake.
The following day we said goodbye to Russ and Virginia after a whirlwind trip though Africa. The following day we decided that one day snorkeling was just not enough and Latha put her contacts in and we headed for a marine wildlife reserve. Again, what a great experience and it was wonderful to see the fish in Finding Nemo up close. Latha really enjoyed it this time and would point frantically every time something cool swam under her.
We spent a few more nights in Stone Town after our beach days. The highlights were listening to some live Tarob music one night and visiting the old slave market. There is an Anglican church on the sight of the slave market now. The history of the slave trade was well described and left us with many thoughts.
The last day was spent enjoying Zanzibar spice coffee and tea while frantically shopping.
