Jaipur is the largest city in Rajasthann and was built in the eighteenth century by Sawai Jai Singh as India's first planned city. Jaipur is often called the Pink City in reference to its distinctly colored buildings, which were originally painted this color to imitate the red sandstone architecture of Mughal cities.
Jaipur is just a short stop for us and with only one day we looked around the pink city and took in the City Palace. The City Palace is a blend of traditional Rajput and Mughal architecture. It is a vast palace complex occupying nearly one-seventh of the Pink City. It was originally built by Maharaja Jai Singh II. The complex is divided into a series of courtyards, sprawling gardens and buildings.
Jaipur is known for it's shopping, and we took advantage of the gorgeous jewellery on display. We also had south Indian dosai for dinner so Carol and Dennis could try the speciality.
