We took a quick flight from Coimbatore to Hyderabad, our first real taste of Islamic dynasties gone by.  Hyderabad, like every big city in India is very busy, polluted, and chaotic.  But a short auto drive away from the hotel, and you are in the middle of centuries old architecture amidst the hustle and bustle of the city.

We had the opportunity to visit Ramoji Film City, a huge film studio (well, film city describes it better).  We walked through Mogul empire sets, Delhi street sets, the obligatory "dance in the green fields" set, as well as some strange ones (Wild Wild West?).  The stunt show was impressive, and it was a great way to spend a day away from the loud city.  And it was nice to finally see where all these picturesque city scenes are filmed!  We definitely know they aren't filmed in the actual city!  :)

The next day we saw the main city sites including Chowmahalla Palace and Charminar.  The Palace was gorgeous, and included Persian, Rajasthani, and European designs and architecture.  The intricate gold detailing and huge Belgian cyrstal chandeliers were most impressive.  Charminar, built in 1591, is a huge four column structure in the middle of the city.  We went up the towers the day before Eid-Al-Adha, and as you can see in the picture witnessed a most impressive traffic jam!
