After spending a few weeks with family and not having to travel every other day it was time to get out on our own again. Our first stop was the sleepy town of Mamallapuram. Mamallapuram is filled with gorgeous, intricate stone carvings and temples from the Pavallava empire. The carvings were constructed in the 7th Century.
It is a beach front town and although the tsunami had done considerable damage to it, it has been completely rebuilt. We visited the nice Shore temple and the gorgeously carved Five Rathas and wondered around the town.
