We had always planned on spending a few "luxury" days on the Southern beaches of Thailand, and are very glad we stuck to the plan!  Railay beach was described as one of the most breathtaking and laid back getaways in the area, and we agree!

After the issues we had actually getting to Southern Thailand from Bangkok, we definitely deserved some days of R&R.  Our travel experience included 1) missing a train due to delays at an Embassy office (we are obviously too optimistic when it comes to embassies!), 2) getting tickets for the almost sold out next train, 3) having to spend an extra night in Bangkok and not being able to find a room for forty minutes, 4) being ripped off majorly for said room, 5) watching "The Fall" in Bangkok - actually a pretty good movie, and last but not least, 6) spending four hours at the train station due to delays.  Sigh.

But we made it - and best of all, boy was it worth it!  The water was very warm, a clear emerald colour, and provided the main attraction for the stay at Railay Beach.  We had fun swimming, reading (I read "The Way the Crow Flies", and Calvin read "The Time Traveler's Wife" - didn't enjoy his, I loved mine), eating (roti parathas and coconut lassies!) and getting foot scrubs on the beach.

Krabi is also an excellent place to rock climb, but we didn't feel adventurous enough to try outdoor climbing for the first time.  It was very serene and cool to swim under the limestone cliffs, though.

We were very patient watching the sunset, but unfortunately got caught in the evening downpour a few times.  At least the rain washed all the sea salt off us.  After three days of great weather, and one day of cloudy weather, we left Railay for Krabi town for some last minute Thailand shopping.
