We booked a day tour through the hotel to visit the Imperial Citadel, and numerous tombs around the city. The Citadel was impressive, with a reconstruction effort currently in place for parts destroyed during the war.
The symbol of Hue (and somewhat Northern Vietnam) is the Thien Mu Pagoda. It's built on a hill overlooking the Perfume River. There have been many protests at this sight over the years. There is a huge bell, and it's ring can be heard for 10km.
The imperial tombs were a must see, and we were not disappointed one bit! The three tombs we visited really showed the differences between the rulers who built them. Some more subdued, summer type houses in beautiful forests, and others were very extravagant buildings made from imported mosaics. We enjoyed walking around the gardens and looking at the man made lakes the most.
