Guest Entries from our travel partners.

Aug 5th
We met Calvin and Latha bundled up outside the Juliaca (Puno) airport.  It was pretty cold (toque and mitten weather) and the thin air was a bit noticable.  There are ZERO trees here... it´s like a cold desert.  Immediately the haggling began as we took a cab into Puno, shunning the mini-bus because they ripped off Calvin and Latha on the way to the airport.

In Puno we stayed two nights in a hotel called ´´Tumi Dos´´ for about $15 US per night.  We wore our toques to bed and slept under 5 blankets because there was no heat.  Also no toilet paper... but thankfully it did have hot water.

The four of us visited Taquile island in lake Titicaca, and the floating reed islands called "Uros".  Got some great photos.  Lots of kids trying to sell us stuff.  Our tour boat had some bad luck: first something got sucked into the engine and we had to stop for at least a half hour trying to fix it.  Then one lady on the tour got pretty ill (probably altitude sickness) and had to be carried down 500 stairs in order to get off of Taquile.  THEN as we were waiting for that lady a small boy, a local whose parents had left him on the island to sell stuff, fell off of the pier and got soaked, so a bunch of the tourists gave him dry clothes and we gave him a ride back to Puno.  Lorin was having annoying headaches due to altitude, and Jesma was having stomach problems... but nothing that kept us from enjoying ourselves.
