Our first destination in Peru is the city of Arequipa, arriving after 10hrs on the bus and almost freezing as we passed over a couple of very high passes we arrived late in the evening but found a nice place to stay (even a hot shower).

We visited the Museo Santury which houses some frozen mummies that were found on a couple of the summits of the surrounding mountains.  The Inca sacrificed children to appease the mountain gods. They were at such an elevation that  the frozen mummies where preserved very well down to there clothes and hair.  It was a little eerie looking though the glass of the still frozen 500 year old mummy and seeing her hair and all the features but very cool.  After that we visited the Monasterio de Santa Catalina that was built in the 1500 hundreds and was for very elite Spanish families to send there children to be nuns.  There rooms were huge and were even a lot nicer than places that people still live in here today.  They even had 3-4 slaves each inside the place to look after their needs.  Very strange.

Living Vicariously
I'm really enjoying your travel blog and living vicariously! I miss the days when the worst thing was a cold bus ride, and the best a hot shower. SL
