After a night bus from Trinidad to Santa Cruz then a 3 hour shared taxi we arrived in the beautiful and sleepy town of Samipata.  After arriving we took a taxi to the Cuevas (waterfall) near the town.  Unfortunately it was a little cold or we could have had a nice shower under the falls and after Igauzu falls this failed in comparison a little.

The following day we took a taxi to El Fuerte which is a pre inca ruin site near the village.  The site was caved out of stone on top of a near by mountain, and although it was very nice, very little is know about the site and very little has been excavated.  Part of it looks as if it could have been a UFO landing site!  As it was only 9km from town we walked back to town enjoying the mountain views.

Samipata is a small town on the edge of the national park Amboro.  The park is at the correct elevation that it is situated in the clouds the majority of the time and being this close to the equator gives it very unique vegetation.   So we hired a guide and interpreter to take up us to see this cloud forest.  Our guide was amazing -  on the way up we took his kid and dropped him off at his grandparents who live on the border of the park.  Our guide grew up right next to the park and knew everything about it.  He pointed out lots birds and plants that the locals use for different medicines.  The park did not disappoint us as there was moss, mushrooms and vines growing everywhere and as it was in the clouds there was so much moisture.  There where giant fern with trunks that were 2┤thick  - not something you see everyday!

We had one final day in Samipata before going back to Santa Cruz and catching our flight to La Paz and although I am working on Latha┤s fear of all animals I think I took a step back that day.  We where having a cup of coffee on the patio of this restaurant when a group of stray dogs in the town started fighting on the street near us.  Latha first jumped on her chair then on me before I could calm her down.  Need less to say she went inside after that.  One small step at a time. (Latha┤s comment: ĘThe dogs were fighting over a female dog, and I was fine until the whole pack of them jumped up on the sidewalk where we were and started fighting with each other!  Ugh Ugh ugh.)
