From the lovely (OK hole of a town Campo Grande) we made our way to the Pantanal, a great big swamp for a better way of describing it. This is a large wet land area in the center of Brazil that is noted for its diverse wildlife. Our trip out there consisted of a 5 hour bus ride then an hour in the back of a truck before we made it to the camp. We spent three days here doing different activities each day to get out and see the wildlife.

On our arrival there was a large red Macaw (pet) that was flying around meeting people which was nice but, when the pet wild pig showed up to greet everyone Latha needed some calming down.

The first morning we went for a nice walk seeing the giant Jabiru bird (the symbol of the area) as well as monkeys, deer and the rare endangered Blue macaw (only 3000 left in the wild) it was very nice to see

Caimans

. The toucan�s were flying over head. That evening was time for some Piranha fishing and although we never caught any our guides did and we got to eat them that evening.

The next day was horse back riding followed by a jeep safari. Both events were filled with seeing lots of birds and Caiman. The final day we floated down the river seeing more birds. Latha is really getting into this bird watching and is now looking for a bird book of the area. Ha ha ha.

The Pantanal was one of the great sites in Brazil, and a perfect way to end our stay here. We met fellow travelers, got some very helpful traveling tips for Bolivia, and got to see the gaucho (cowboy) style of life.

And I�m happy to report, Latha even ended up petting the ��wild�� pig at the end of the trip. We even have a picture to prove it. And once we get a computer that can access our pictures, we will definitely post some!
