Where I stayed
Leaving Prague this morning bright and early. Supposed to catch the train at 7:15am, and when Mandy told the ticket agent yesterday that we were going to arrive at the station at 6:30am, he looked at us like we were crazy, "this is not a plane you know." So we left the hotel at 6:55am, big mistake! We were running up and down escalators and down tunnels from one train to the next. We just barely made our train by a couple of minutes. The train leaving Prague wasn't a very nice one at all. After several stops the car we were in was going to be detached ask we moved forward to another car and shared it with another couple. Then after a while longer the ticket guy told us we had to deboard and get on a bus. Guess there was something wrong with the track. So for the rest of the way we took a bus to Linz and then a train with our own cabin the rest of the way into Salzburg.
We arrived at the station got some money out of the ATM and got our Salzburg cards, then walked around trying to find our hotel. Eventually we just hoped on a random bus and luckily were able to stay on it until it took us to a stop near our hotel. We stayed at the Markus Stittikis Hotel. The 5th floor in from 50. Our first hour hour there, Mandy took a shower and flooded the entire bathroom with about an inch of water. The pressure in the shower head was so high that it actually hurt.
Anyway, after a big day of traveling we still wanted to see the town. We went down the street south for a few blocks until we came to a cafe next to the Salzburg Congress. We were both so hungry from all the traveling- (side note: they have sparkling water in Europe that they love. Its carbonated water and it is nasty, but they like it. You have to ask for still water or novas, otherwise they give you that nasty stuff which is what happened to me on the train. The cafes kitchen closed at 2pm, we just ordered several small items, and Mandy had a delicious coffee flavored cappuccino, some whip cream shake type of drink.
e stayed on the north side of the river that day and walked around the shops, eventually walking into a graveyard in the middle of town and looked at all the elaborate tombstones, dating back to the 1500's. The grave site was located at St. Sebastian's Church. We found a staircase that took us straight up the hill between the buildings. Halfway up, there was a church, St.Johns church on Imburg Mountain, were there was a man playing the organ in the balcony. A very small beautiful church. We continued on up to the mountain and came to the Church and Monastery of the Capuchin Monks. It is a beautiful view from the top of the mountain towards the castle. We walked around there for a while before heading back down. On the way back to the hotel we stopped and had dinner at this Italian place where we had pizza with banana peppers on it. So far every pizza we have had out here had been made in a wood burning oven, which makes the crust awesome.
After dinner we went back to the hotel and crashed early, 8:30pm, after a LONG day!!
