As much as I enjoyed Buenos Aires it's fun to be exploring a new place again (maybe I won't be saying that in a few weeks when I'm sick of carting my bag about!).

In my last few days in BA I tried to get in more touristy-type activities:

I finally tried Freddo's ice cream - just as well I didn't try it earlier as they have dulce de leche flavour ice cream with dulce de leche sauce in it and I'd probably either have put on loads of weight or rotted my teeth!

Saw some tango - Sandra, Angel, Jon and I went to a tango place that took shabby chic to the extreme and offered tango lessons included in the 10 peso (less than 2) entrance fee. Unfortunately we didn't find out that we could have been doing the lesson til it had finished....shame!

Went to the volleyball - I went with Liz, Pascal and Jon to see Argentina v Korea at Luna Park. We had a good time despite guessing much of what was going on and being taken by surprise by the fact that Argentina won because we didn't realise it was match point! The only bad thing was that I got the song Vamos, Vamos Argentina stuck in my head again just when I'd got rid of it! The half time entertainment was worth it thoug - it's was like being at the circus!

Finally got to the Museo de Bellas Artes - 3rd time lucky and some of the modern stuff really made it worth the wait!

Got woken up on my last morning by thunder and lightning - not a great start considering that I couldn't just stay in all day because I had things to do! The rain was absolutely hammering down but the lightning was pretty cool. I have a video with a good burst of lightning at the end that I'll upload.

Of course no trip to Argentina is complete without delays courtesy of Aerolineas Argentina - surely in the running for the worst airline in the world (if there is such a competition!). It's so common for them to have delays and have to provide food that the restaurant has a pre-printed set menu and can serve about 200 people a 2 course meal (with some pretty nice steak) within half an hour. Hmmm, now that I think of it maybe Aerolineas should learn lessons from the restaurant in efficiency!!

Finally arrived in Miami on the correct day (just and only because of the time difference!) but about 13 hours later than originally planned. Given that the temperature in the middle of the night was 30 degrees, I'm almost glad because I wouldn't have coped with the heat during the day in my jeans and jumper. All I will say is thank goodness for air conditioning!

Staying in the hostel is good for the budget but not for getting some peace and quiet! I'm sharing a 6 bed dorm which is smaller than the studio I had in Buenos Aires but everyone is nice and my bed (on the bottom bunk) is pretty comfy. The location is pretty good too - only 2 blocks from the beach, although I would prefer if they weren't digging up the road and doing work on the building next door early in the morning!

Went for a wander yesterday to get my bearings and some maps and as well as seeing some of the cool art deco architecture South Beach is famous for I also found the holocaust memorial which has to be one of the most disturbing monuments I've ever seen. I'll upload a picture but it's a hand reaching up for the sky and forming it's wrist and arm are lots of emaciated and screaming people - very disturbing. On a lighter note I also went for a walk on the beach and got a good laugh at the sign (which I'll also upload) listing items that are forbidden - why anyone would want to take a gun to the beach escapes me! I mean, you'd get sand in it and surely that'd clog up the mechanism!!

Today I went to the Bayside Shopping Centre and took a boat tour that showed me around some of the coastline. They also pointed out some famous people's houses which was interesting but I didn't see any of the occupants - not really a huge surprise!

The heat here is unbelievable, my suncream is getting well used. It's hard work but I'll persevere!
