This morning we walked to the main square of Cologne where the massive Colonge Cathedral stands. This structure is awe inspiring from the outside and when we walked in side were further amazed at its interior. We realised that there was an english speaking tour at 2.30pm so we changed our plans and headed back outside to return later. We had a quick look around the Christmas market situated on the forecourt of the cathedral and then boarded a tour bus that took us around to all the major sites of this city. It was a hop on hop off bus but we just stayed on so we could get back in time for the cathedral tour. On the tour of the cathedral we learnt alot about its long and complicated history (the foundation stone was laid in 1248 but the construction ceased in 1520 and it stood unfinished until the 1800 and was finished in 1880) and it's luck during the bombings during WW2 when it only received minimal damage. We saw pictures after the bombing where everything around it was totally destroyed and in the middle stood this massive structure unscathed. Inside the cathedral stands a beautiful golden shine which holds the relics and remains of the Three Kings. Following this we went to a Kolsch beer brew house and drank the freshly made on site Kolsch and guess what ... had more schnitzel. We then had another look through the Christmas Market before heading off to our hotel to pick up our luggage and off to the train station to catch the train to Berlin.
