We arrived in Mal Pais after a 4 hour shuttle ride followed by an hour long ferry ride, it wasn't bad though, we shared the trip with a guy from Canada who has lived here for 6 years and owns a surf shop, so he is taking us out on Monday and Tuesday. Also, it turns out that he is married to a main character on the soap opera One Life to Live. I have never seen that show, but he showed us pictures of both of them on the red carpet as well as her presenting an award at the Emmy's, so I guess I believe him. He says that he met her while giving a surf lesson, and they were married 12 days later.

Mal Pais is totally different than the other beach town we were in. Although there are quite a few touists, this place still has an 'undiscovered' feel. The one road through the town isn't paved, and to get to the nearest bank we have to take a 40 min bus ride. The place we are staying is great. It has a trail out the back gate directly to the beach, which is miles long and never crowded. The owner is also very laid back. In the kitchen there is a cooler with cola, water, beer, etc..and there is just a sheet of paper above where you write your name and what you take, and you pay when you want.  the type of people who are staying there that he doesn't have to worry with anyone taking advantage of it. We tried to pay him for our first night and he laughed and told us to pay when we leave. Apparently  many people come here and stay for months longer than they planned, so he doesn't worry with taking money until you decide to leave.

From what we can tell so far we really like it here, plus it's very cheap compared to the other places we have been, so we will probably spend several days here.

Too bad about the Vols, better luck next year. Now I guess I've gotta pull for Memphis. But really as long as Florida doesn't win I'll be happy.

Still just taking it easy in Mal Pais. We have learned that 90% of the people in our hostel are very, very good surfers...by watching they seem almost at the professional level, and they have all been here for a considerable amount of time and act like a large family, so we kind of feel like outsiders. Its no big deal though, we just do our own thing. The hostel is kind of run down but we like it. It gets so hot that it is almost unbearable to go to the beach between 12-3, our hostel has a huge open air room with mattresses and pillows and fans everwhere with a huge selection of movies, so when it gets hot everyone just lays around and watches a few movies everyday...I like it.

The plans now are to stay here until Wednesday then figure out our next stops so we can easly meet up with Casey.

Not much has went on since my last post. Now I understand why pepole never leave here. The laid back, no rush way of life in this town just sucks you right in...it's contagious. Mike said that here we have caught a sleeping bug. It seems that all anyone does is just chills and takes naps, and after a few days thats what we started doing too. I'm glad we came here though, it allowed us to save a little cash for the final two weeks of the trip.

After much thought and getting advice from others, we think that the rest of our trip is laid out...all thats left to do now is get the OK from Casey and we will be on our way.

Leaving here in the morning to head to Quepos to meet up with Clark again for a few days. It should be quite a haul to get there, but nothing that we can't handle.
