This was the first of our monthly (we hope!) trips out of Sydney with two nights at the Hunter Valley over the long Anzac weekend. Getting there involves a 2 hour drive north out of the city and once you've arrived, it's vineyard after vineyard of wine tastings. In fact, there are so many that you feel more than a bit overwhelmed about which ones to go to and which can be missed. The most famous in the area are probably Lindemans and Tyrells.
I have to say that the tasting measure is very generous and me being me, yes I was enjoying draining the glass and moving on to the next. Maddie also has developed a taste for wine and was happily dipping her finger in for a try! Mother's daughter....... Generally, per winery you probably manage to taste about 6 - 8 wine varieties and when you are visiting 5 vineyards in the space of a few hours, then you could easily polish off the equivalent of a bottle before you know it!
We were staying in a lovely hotel in the grounds of Hunter Valley Gardens - formal gardens open to the public. On Monday, we spent the morning having a leisurely walk in the gardens. Maddie really enjoyed the children's garden, where they have recreated nursery rhymes amongst the plants. Cheesy? Yes! Great for photo opportunities though!!
After a few more vineyard visits though it was time for home and preparing to pack for our house move.
