We left Sacramento early next morning and made our way to Lake Tahoe, taking in the scenery which became progressively more arid and dry as we went along. We were pleasantly surprised by our cabin at Cedar Glen Lodge and were made very welcome by Martha, the innkeeper.  She gave us a good recommendation for lunch, the Blue Onion which was by the local golf course. Flo and I shared a lovely spinach, pear, pecan and blue cheese salad, Paul tucked into a brie, apple and pecan pancake and Julian enjoyed a shrimp and pesto salad.  After lunch we set off for Reno to meet Mark, which Martha told us would take about an hour along a windy mountain road.  Martha was right, as we went higher our ears started popping and the air became cooler but it was worth the drive to see the views.   We were all rather apprehensive about meeting up with Mark as we had no way of contacting him, other than a previous arrangement to be at the Amtrak station for 5 pm.

Reno was large, urbanised, and seemed to be a city devoted to gambling and the pursuit of  a fast buck or ladies of a certain disposition. We disscovered a bus station near to the rail terminus and thought that Mark's Greyhound bus might come in there but when we asked we found that it was a few blocks away.  We had intended to try and pick him up but by now the traffic had built up and a number of streets were closed due to road works and so we returned to the Amtrak station to wait and lo and behold, there he was!  It was lovely to see him again and on the journey back to Tahoe there was a lot of catching up.  We found that it wasn't too much of a squash in the back of our car for Flo, Mark and myself and although we couldn't book him into Cedar Glen lodge, we had managed to find him a room right next door.

We decided that after all of the driving that day we would walk out along the lake to find our evening meal and Martha had recommended Spindleshanks, a restaurant a little way from the Lodge.  It was a pleasant meal and we were surprised to notice how busy Lake Tahoe seemed to be, it certainly was a contrast to the peace and quiet we had found at Inverness.  Martha warned us that bears sometimes came down to the Lodge looking for food and that all rubbish must be kept in the sealed bins and not to keep food in our car. There may be a problem with my future posts on this blog as Martha told us that we may not be able to get wi fi in Yosemite, so there may be a delay!
