Managed to survive getting to Heathrow without incident (thank you, John) as even on a Sunday morning the M25 can catch you out.  Checking in at Terminal 5 was fine but we hit a slight snag when we boarded the plane for Seattle.  We sat waiting for a runway for over 35 minutes which meant we were late departing and consequently nearly an hour late getting into Seattle.

The BA flight over was long (over 9 hours) but having upgraded both Julian and Paul had plenty of legroom.  Despite our best efforts, none of us managed to sleep very much so by the time we landed we felt rather crumpled and bleary eyed.  We collected the car quickly from the airport (much cleaner than our airports at home) and although the weather was overcast, it stayed fine for our journey to Olympia, the Washington state capital.

We had chosen our first night's stay purely as a stop over but were pleasantly surprised by both the welcome and facilities at the Phoenix Inn.  The room was clean, comfy and very welcome after a long day.  We asked for a recommendation for somewhere to eat and were directed across the car park to the boardwalk cafe, the Bud Bay Diner.  This was a very pleasant meal - clam chowder, followed by seafood (burger for Paul) and nice desserts although we realised we were eating it at the UK equivalent of 4 in the morning!  We all wearily made our way to bed at the end of a very long day.
