Great trip over courtesy of Air Canada - and the views of the Artic circle from the plane were stunning. Paul even managed to get Tom Tom to track the route mid-air!
Hotel is conveniently placed for the city centre and it has a C train on the corner - a great cross between a tram and tube train which is FREE for the most part (London Underground please note) so that makes it handy for getting around quickly. Found a great place to have brunch on our first morning, Nellie's Diner - more food than we could really manage but we dug in and did our best!
We went to one of the malls and then visited the Devonian Gardens - a strange but welcome gardens set up above a shopping mall - think garden centre on top of Bluewater and you sort of get the idea. There was a food festival here in Calgary this week-end called a Taste of Calgary. Very popular, lots of stalls run by local restaurants giving samples of local food and drink. Paul and Julian were impressed to find IPA, and 40 other local beers to sample! (Flo and I stuck to the Margaritas).
Today we picked up our small vehicle (!!) from Alamo and Paul dropped us off at Calgary Zoo whilst he went for a swim. The zoo is one of Calgary's main visitor attractions and it is easy to see why, it is well laid out, reasonable and has a strong emphasis on education and conservation. Got some good pictures - and after looking at the Canadian wildlife section have a good idea of what we might be lucky enough to see in the Rockies.

Canada's Wild Life
Great pics. Don't be a wimp - the wolf is your mother's favourite animal and she will expect to see more real action shots ! We had a great 'bear story' on TV last evening but will not worry you with the details. Just keep checking in accordance with the official instructions I gave before you left. Did you remember to pack the magnifying glass for 'close inspection' ?
