Tuesday, July 3, 1984

My wife and I took the train from Paris to Calais, a hydrofoil from Calais to Dover, and a train from Dover to Paris.  Don't forget, this was 1984 when direct transportation from Paris to London did not exist except by flying.    We wanted to see the countryside, and it was good experience for independent traveling.

We had two full days in London, so we decided to take a trip to Warwick Castle and Stratford-upon-Avon to visit the homes of Shakespear and Agatha Christi.   Many decades later when I took my sister for a visit to Egypt, I took my sister and two ladies to the Old Cataract Hotel in Aswan to visit the Agatha Christi suite.  The maid offered to show us the Winston Churchill suite after our visit to Christi's.   What a treat that was!
