June 20, Friday:  Today was the day we traveled to Cojimar to visit Ernest Hemingway's home - where he lived longest at 20 years.   This link explains how Fidel Castro allowed Hemingway's wife, Mary, to take some personal items out of the home after his death in 1961.

Jose picked us up to take us to Cojima to visit Hemingway's home and to La Terraza  bar and restaurant where Hemingway frequented to have a meal and have a drink or two.

  1. Gregorio Fuentes of Cojimar, Cuba, claims to have been the inspiration for Ernest Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea. Fuentes, now 101, was the longtime captain of Hemingway's fishing boat, Pilar.

We took a taxi home, and went back to our casa particular to wash up and rest until dinner time. Since Alexander was not feeling well, Manfred, Sheila and I went to Le Templete for dinner one block away from Plaza Armas.   When we returned from dinner, Alexander was feeling better, so we went to Sloppy Joes for a drink, and ended up the day at Parque Central for drinks and a cigar.

Wiki on Le Templete (on Plaza Armas).
El Templete is a monument in HavanaCuba, that pays homage to the place where the foundation of the town of San Cristóbal de la Habana was celebrated in 1519. The monument consists of bust of Christopher Columbus and three canvases painted by Jean Baptiste Vermay. It is a Neoclassic building, typical example of colonial architecture.

On El Templete restaurant.
