Oct 31, Thu: TRIER has many interesting sites that can be ranked very high on places to visit. St Peter's Cathedral (Dom), the Church of Our Lady (Liebfrauenkirche), the Black Gate (Porta Nigra), Trier's main market place (Haupmarkt) considered to be one of the most magnificent squares in all of Germany, Imperial Roman Baths, Evangelical Lutheran Church, and for me, the Karl Marx Haus.

During our free time after lunch, I got so engrossed at the Karl Marx Haus that the time for catching the bus back to the ship was totally forgotten.   I ran like a 25 year old man (I'm 78), towards the Black Gate where our bus was to be parked for pickup at 4:45pm.   It was already past that time, and panic was not even close to how I felt; it was beyond that point.   I was thinking I'd have to take a taxi back to our ship, but I wouldn't know how to tell the taxi driver how to get there.

Fortunately for me, the traffic jam in that part of town was stop and go, and our bus was late at least a half hour.   Whew!    I was so happy to see people from our group waiting at the bus stop.

Needless to say, I was never late again.
