SEP 18 – Wed: PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND We departed Nova Scotia for Prince Edward Island on the NFL (Northumberland Ferries Limited) for an hour cruise for a two night stay in Charlottetown PEI, the home of Lucy Maud Montgomery's “Anne of Green Gables.”

We visited Pictou, a small fishing village where lobster boats and traps are a common site. Pictou County was established in 1773.  We returned to Pictou for a lobster dinner at the Waterfront restaurant.  For the included dinner, we had lobster, mussels, a huge salad bar, and drinks. What more can we wish for?

Charlottetown is also where “Canada was created.” Our Tour Director, Gerry, told me that many fans from Japan of Anne of Green Gables visit Charlottetown to visit the Green Gables house, and one year 47 couples were married there. In Japan, Anne of Green Gables is taught in school, and is an icon for the Japanese.
When we went to see the show, there were more than several Japanese fans in the audience.
We were shown the movie Anne of Green Gables starring Richard Farnsworth while on the bus before we went to see the show.    We were treated to the musical show, “Anne of Green Gables” at the Confederation for the Arts theater. It was an excellent three hour show!

From Wiki: Charlottetown is a Canadian city incorporated as a town in 1855. It was most famously the site of the Charlottetown Conference in 1864, the first gathering of Canadian and Maritime statesmen to debate the proposed Maritime Union and the more persuasive British North American Union, now known as the Canadian Confederation. From this, the city adopted as its motto "Cunabula Foederis" "Birthplace of Confederation".

I also found the following on the web about the students to see the show.
Principal’s Message to Parents and Students: I would like to take this opportunity to welcome students and staff back to an exciting school year! The Canadian Student
Leadership Conference takes place September 17-21
- 750 of the most promising leaders from across the country will participate in workshops and listen to worldclass speakers. Our own students will be assuming roles of Spirit Leaders and volunteers; however, there will be no classes during this time. Students who volunteer for 12 hours during this time will gain entrance to the final MuchMusic video dance at the end of the Conference. As parents, you also have the opportunity to volunteer -
we need drivers for the car rally for the advisors and chaperones for the buses to go to Charlottetown to see "Anne of Green Gables" and return.

They chanted their leadership song before the show; another great experience for our group.
