November 17, 2012:  Sorry to report that there have been missiles from Gaza into Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Ashod where our ship was docked just a few weeks ago.   It seems a ground war is in the making with the Israeli military's tank and ground troops preparing to enter Gaza.   I hope everyone well, but I don't have much hope that a peace treaty will result from this war.   Really sad because so many innocent people will be harmed.

This is the first time Hamas is aiming their missiles at the Old City.   There is no excuse for such actions when Jews, Christians, and Muslims all live there.   It will be a crime against humanity to destroy their history.

OCT 24: Was a cruising day to Israel. My roommate and I had dinner at the specialty restaurant, Red Ginger, one of our favorites. I walked 6.8 miles.

JERUSALEM is one of the oldest cities of the world, and Israel's largest city with a population of 800,000 citizens which includes 208,000 Palestinians. Jerusalem is a holy city to three major religions, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The walls were built around Jerusalem in 1538 by Suleiman the Magnificent, and those walls define the Old City with its four quarters as the Armenian, Christian, Jewish and Muslim Quarters. The site became a World Heritage Site in
1981.

OCT 25: Jerusalem, Israel. Our ship docked in Ashod for an overnight that gave us two days to visit Jerusalem, Qumran (re: Dead Sea Scrolls), Masada, and the Dead Sea.  My first visit to Israel was in 2006 about one month after their war with Lebanon. That was when I told my wife and friends that I was going to visit Israel, they said to me “are you crazy?” Never felt safer in my life.

This time, our group's travel agent hired a Mercedes van for our group of ten for our optional tours for the three days in Israel. Our tour today was a full day in Jerusalem to visit the Mount of Olives, the Old City, and the Holocaust Museum.

I walked 6.9 miles today.
