Normally, I join "this" travel group a few days before a cruise, but I had to be home because we have hosted the New Year's Day party at our house the past couple of years. I flew to FL the night before the embarkation of our cruise on Oceania's MS Marina, the new ship they just put into service last year.
After arriving at Coconut Grove from the MIA airport, I took a taxi ($37+tip) to the Mayfair Hotel to check in. After settling in a bit, I walked across the street to the shopping mall to see if I could find people in our travel group, but none were there or at our hotel bar. After turning on the tv, Alexander called me and said they were at Monty's. I tried to take a cab there, but the cab driver said it was too short a fare - about ten blocks from our hotel, so I walked there in the humidity and heat.
Five from our group were there drinking pain killers, and eating oysters and crabs (at $1 each), so I had six oysters and three pain killers. My roommate and I went to Havana Harry's for dinner. I slept well that night - half soused out of my mind.
