OCT 2: This coach ride was the longest of this journey for one day from Antalya to Capaddocia, but it was worth every mile on the road to arrive at this fantasy land. Our drive took us through the Taurus Mountains, with our arrival in the holy city of Konya at noon. Konya is one of Turkey's oldest continually inhabited cities, and the home to the Whirling Dervishes. This Muslim order performs vigorous chanting and whirling dances – it seems in a trance – as acts of
devotion. We visited the Mevlana Museum that contains the mausoleum of the founder of the Whirling Dervishes. Time Magazine selected Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi as “Mystic of the 13th
Century.” This branch of the Muslim faith teaches tolerance towards all peoples and religions. Rumi's beautifully lyrical poems have a wide appeal in the world of Islam, and studied by other
religions. * We were not allowed to take pictures at the Mevlana Museum.
