OCT 1: We attended a cooking lesson today presented by a famous chef on the preparation of some simple and easy foods of Turkey. We then visited the Antalya Museum to learn about the history of Antalya and to view some of the 5000 artifacts on display in 13 exhibit halls covering an area of 75,000 square feet.
This region has been settled since the Paleolithic Age, and there was an indigenous people called Pamphilio in this region around 1200 BC. This region came under the control of the Lydian Kingdom, the Persians, and Alexander the Great. The Roman Empire took control beginning with the 4th century.

The rest of the day was at leisure, so most of us visited
Old Town with its many bazaars, and the covered bazaar with all manners of products that
included many gold and silver jewelry. A nice place to spend an hour or so to get the feel of the place, because it's different than the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. On my way back to our hotel, I
stopped at an ice cream parlor and treated myself to a banana split. While enjoying my dessert, they were singing happy birthday in English on the second floor.
