Callao is a port city of of 600,000, but it has merged with Lima and considered one metropolis with 8 million. I've been to Lima before - and after this journey. My roommate and I took the free bus into Lima, and hired a taxi for $15/hour to show us around the cities important sites such as the San Francisco Cathedral, Plaza de Armas (Plaza Major), Plaza San Martin, and the Larco Museum which has the largest collection of antiquities in Peru.
This was an overnight in Callao, so Greg and I took a taxi for $10 to the largest shopping center called MINKA in Callao. It's the largest shopping center I have ever seen that has huge produce sections with cheeses, spices, meats, fishes, hardware stores, souvenir shops, fast food, clothing, banks, price friendly internet and international telephone service, and most everything else one might find in their local shopping mall.
