Where I stayed
On a Chinese junk

Flag of Vietnam  ,
Friday, October 2, 2009

Halong Bay located north-east of the country is a favorite destinations for both Vietnamese and foreign visitors.  The 3,000 limestone rocks shaped by millions of years of changing climate and conditions have created an artistic gallery that hugs the border of China that covers about 200 square miles.

During our coach ride from Hanoi to Halong Bay, we stopped at several places to visit.  The first was a craft factory where the handicapped produce some arts and crafts for sale.  This was also our rest stop on this 3.5 hour trip.   We also stopped at a roadside market to look at what they were selling.   We saw cooked dog head on sale.  In Vietnam, they breed dogs for food.

We stayed overnight on one of the many junks that ply the waters of Halong Bay.  The water was calm, so it didn't really feel like we were on a boat except when we cruised around the bay to see the sights.   After our night on the boat, we cruised back for our disembarkation for travel back to Hanoi to visit the Museum of Ethnology, and to catch a flight to Hue.
