After my sister's husband passed away, my nephew asked me to take his mother on a trip.  After thinking about how to reduce the number of destinations, I thought about the couple of the oldest civilizations that were far advanced for their time, so my thoughts settled on Egypt and China.   Both of these countries have a long recorded history, and offer sites that are some of the best preserved in this world.  Who can argue that the Great Wall of China or the Great Pyramids of Giza aren't two of the major man-made wonders of the world.   My sister picked Egypt, so we also did the Jordan extension to visit Petra.

Since my vacation photo album survived pretty well for some nine years after our return, I will scan and post it here with my commentary and pictures.

The last postings represents the last day we spent in Cairo before our flight home.  We were free to rest or explore on our own, so my sister and two ladies joined us to visit the Coptic area of Cairo.  The following was taken from Wiki:

Coptic Cairo is a part of Old
Cairo
which encompasses the Babylon Fortress, the Coptic
Museum
, the Hanging Church, the Greek
Church of St. George and many other Coptic churches and historical
sites. It is believed that the Holy
Family
visited this area and stayed at the site of Saints Sergius
and Bacchus Church (Abu Serga)
.[1]
Coptic Cairo was a stronghold for Christianity
in Egypt until the Islamic era, though most of the current buildings of
the churches in Coptic Cairo were built after the Muslim conquest of Egypt.[2]
